Prof Ryo Yoshida works as a Professor at the School of Engineering, The University of Tokyo. He obtained his doctorate in the year 1993 from Waseda University, Tokyo, Japan. He has been conducting extensive research on different areas of materials science including polymer gels, smart (intelligent) materials, biomimetics, artificial muscles, artificial organs, controlled drug release, and many more. Prof Yoshida has done some amazing work on design of smart or intelligent polymer gels and their application to biomedical and biomimetic fields. He has also been instrumental in the development of a novel self-oscillating gel which can autonomously exhibit cyclic swelling-deswelling motion in conditions like heartbeat. These innovative smart gel systems will potentially serve as a good model for the understanding of biochemical and biophysical phenomena. Dr. Roshida has been the recipient to a wide range of prizes, honours, and awards, such as Society of Polymer Science 2009 Wiley Award, 2018 New Age Technology Award, IAAM, and many more.
