Prof. T. Venkatesan has been a Physicist and manager for almost two decades with Bell Labs and Bellcore. In the last two decades, he has worked with the Center for Superconductivity Research. Prof. Venkatesan is widely regarded for his pioneering research and contributions to the fields of nanoscience and nanotechnology. In the year 1985, he founded the Surface Center at Rutgers University and served as a professor there for 5 years. He went on to lead an effort in Oxide Electronics at UMD and then in the year 2008, directed a Center of Excellence in Nano-structured Materials, devices, and systems at the National University of Singapore. He is a pioneer of the Pulsed Laser Deposition process and was the first scientist to demonstrate the intricacies of the process that resulted in the adoption of this process as a reproducible laboratory technique for the development of the high-quality multi-component oxide thin films. In 1989, he founded Neocera, a company that specializes in pulsed laser and electron deposition equipment. Dr. Venkatesan is a Fellow of the American Physical Society and the World Innovation Forum. He has also won the Bellcore award of excellence and the UMB Graduate Board Award. Moreover, he is a prolific author and has authored or co-authored as many as 450 papers and holds 27 patents in the area of oxides involving magnetic materials, optical materials, and superconductors.
